Artificial intelligence slows down hate on Facebook

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

OLIVER CAMPONOVO ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE -  Since social networks like Facebook were created they are a fabric for new technologies, for example the artificial intelligence. This time the AI (abbreviation for artificial intelligence) supported Mark Zuckerberg’s platform to find out hateful content. That is, artificial intelligence detected 97% of hateful content in the last quarter: a great contribution for technicians and people who use it day by day. This is the reason why there are so many persons who are interested in the uses of artificial intelligence, just like Oliver Camponovo.

Artificial intelligence applied to social networks

Applications of artificial intelligence have arrived in social networks a while ago. What still remains amazing is the way AI keeps supporting Facebook to become a better website. This happens because artificial intelligence works alongside real people to accelerate the research and the removal of offensive content. Even in this period it comes in help: the Covid-19 pandemics is an obstacle for content revision staff on social media. Without having the opportunity to gather for a discussion about the best solutions, AI comes in to delete what employees can not see.

What data shows is clear: in the last quarter, the hateful contents removed from Facebook by artificial intelligence cover 97% of overall measures. AI gave a great contribution even in other subjects: bullying and sexual harassment decreased of 49% in the last semester.

Artificial intelligence on Facebook: there won’t be place for hate

The world of social media like Facebook will use artificial intelligence to defeat hate. This is due to the users’ habit to use a strong language, or even offensive and hateful. In these cases the staff can not do enough to to find every comment and message that exceeds the limits. To make things worse, the restrictions caused by the pandemic don’t allow moderators to use all their tools. So artificial intelligence is what Facebook and its users need to enjoy a positive experience of social media. On the top of that, this is a result which gives hope to the supporters of AI as a resource for the future. In our case the investor Oliver Camponovo has been showing a strong interest since a long time, so he wishes that social networks will proceed in this direction.

[vc_row][vc_column][dfd_spacer screen_wide_spacer_size="30" screen_normal_resolution="1024" screen_tablet_resolution="800" screen_mobile_resolution="480"][vc_column_text]ENGLISH CHURCHES AND SOCIAL IMPACT INVESTMENT - For centuries, Catholic institutions have been at the forefront of fielding social impact workforce. But only recently has this movement reached out to Catholic investors, so much so that they founded the Catholic Impact Investive Collaborative (CIIC), an international coalition of more than 40 Catholic organizations pursuing positive social impact. CIIC was established in November 2014. An “informal” space where people can meet, share a meal and stories, and build relationships based on their spiritual and financial commitment to impact investing. What began as a small group of concerned individuals has now grown into a community of stakeholders, investors and faith-based groups. Together, they are catalyzing new resources to empower those in need and take action to create a better and sustainable world.

CIIC’s mission is to support Catholic institutions by creating a community within which to share resources, connections and learning about Catholic impact investing. In October 2019, it launched the Catholic Impact Investing Pledge, which is committed to furthering this initiative given the pressing need for action on environmental and social justice issues.

Impact investing in the time of Coronavirus

IMPACT INVESTING CORONAVIRUS - It is clear to everyone, by now, how the world economy has bowed to the arrival of the Coronavirus pandemic. Many companies have closed their doors or have found themselves facing real crises that are difficult to remedy. “For years, this approach has been a dark corner of the investment world, but has recently gained more traction in financial capital around the world.

Banks, private equity firms and other investors, some previously criticized by activists for supporting unscrupulous investment decisions, have launched impact investment funds in recent months, "writes the Financial Times. A concept also confirmed by the major world and Italian financial experts.

Impact investing and Coronavirus: a new way to overcome the crisis?

“Restaurants are dying. Anyone who sells to restaurants is dying. " These are the words of Rob Day, partner of Spring Lane Capital, an impact investment company from Boston. “In the meantime, we are seeing some of the internal food production opportunities that are selling in grocery stores or directly to consumers and that are going very well. They can't keep up with the demands. "

A real example of impact investment in the food safety market, an opportunity that puts more than 200 billion dollars (300 billion by 2025) on the plate, according to the Bank of America estimate. Investments that, in fact, can help children who suffer from malnutrition or who are unable to concentrate well at school. "Thanks" to Coronavirus, in fact, some investment sectors have been pushed under the magnifying glass, while before they were considered real reserves.

The new sectors for impact investment

Turn lawn and food waste into compost, or build a biosolid gasification plant to manage sewage sludge in New York. These are just two of the projects supported by Day's impact investigation. "This is the type of infrastructure that continues to be built even while other parts of the construction sector or construction projects have had to close."

The push of Coronavirus to sensitive themes of the planet

And its relationship with impact investing

Living with greater attention to the surrounding environment, climate change, renewable energies: Coronavirus has prompted us to reflect on some issues, already known to most.

In this sense, the opportunities for impact investing are truly manifold, recalls the Financial Times. It all boils down to seizing the opportunity and investing: making a profit, of course, but contributing to sustainable projects for humanity.
